Internship Program

Stamford Law Corporation is one of Singapore's premier corporate law firms. We have advised in well-known and significant capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and restructuring deals in Singapore and the region. Our capital markets practice has advised in a majority of the initial public offerings of Chinese businesses in Singapore this year, and on a majority of the REITs listed this year. Our mergers and acquisitions practice has also participated in significant transactions such as the Lippo Group's acquisition of a 29.9% stake in Robinson & Co., Genting International's take-over offer for Stanley Leisure plc and the take-over and de-listing of SembCorp Logistics. On the restructurings practice, we are representing certain creditors in Asia Pulp & Paper's debt restructuring of its principal Chinese operating companies, and continue to advise DBS Bank on Asia Pulp & Paper's Indonesian restructuring.

Interns will benefit from doing an attachment with us in that:

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to sample what life is like in a transactional practice. Students who have completed internship with us will be given priority consideration in their pupillage applications.

Requirements

As we principally practice corporate law, knowledge of company and contract law would be essential. Knowledge of securities, corporate finance, banking or commercial transactions law would also be helpful.

We therefore prefer only 2nd or 3rd year law students to apply.

Expectations

We take our internship programme seriously and expect you to do likewise. We try to involve interns in our transactions as part of the legal team. This may involve research, drafting (including drafting of simple legal documents) and a certain amount of client contact (we will try to bring you to client meetings, where possible). Consequently, we would expect interns to be committed and pro-active.

Number of internship places available

Up to 4 students may intern with us at any one time.

Period of internship

Our Internship programme runs from January 2008 to mid December 2008.

We recommend an internship of at least 2 weeks.
