Foreign Counsel

Stamford is seeking high-calibre lawyers qualified to practice in Malaysia to join our expanding practice as foreign counsel. We look for well-rounded individuals who have not only achieved good academic results but who exhibit a dedication to practising corporate law. A genuine interest in business and economic affairs is a prerequisite.

You must be a responsible and dedicated professional with an enthusiasm for solving difficult and complex legal problems. You should also have excellent inter-personal skills and enjoy working as part of a team.

In return we will give you the opportunity to be involved in cutting edge, high profile transactions for key market players. You will enjoy a diverse practice and will be part of a dedicated team of professionals with extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and corporate banking. Candidates who are fluent in Mandarin and English will get to practice in our China Practice Group, which has experienced foreign counsel and seasoned practitioners with more than 10 years of experience with PRC related matters.  The Stamford China Practice Group prides itself as being one of the biggest and most experienced among Singapore firms.

Successful candidates will be offered remuneration similar to their Singapore-qualified peers in our firm. The career track will also be similar to that of Singapore-qualified lawyers in our firm, up to salaried director level. All other benefits enjoyed by our professional staff will be similarly extended to foreign counsel. In addition, a sum of S$1,000 will be paid (once only) to cover relocation costs.

Qualification for Singapore Bar

We would encourage Malaysian-qualified lawyers who are employed with us as foreign counsel to be qualified for the Singapore bar, if possible.  Benefits during the conversion process would be as follows:

1.                  Stipend of S$500 per month for the duration of the Practice Law Course; and

2.                  Reimbursement of Practice Law Course, dining and court filing fees.

All other terms, including remuneration, will remain unchanged during the pupilage period.
